Matthew J. Porter is from Lyons, New York. He attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook, graduating with degrees in Psychology and Sociology. He earned his Juris Doctor degree at St. John’s University School of Law in Queens, New York.
He joined the Conboy Law Firm in 2016, immediately becoming the firm’s lead criminal attorney. He became a partner in 2018. In 2020 he became the lead divorce and family law attorney in the firm’s Watertown headquarters.
Before joining the firm, he was employed by the Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office for over 13 years. He spent most of his time there as a felony defense attorney and has defended many individuals in trials ranging from traffic tickets to DWI to murder. He has appeared, worked in, and is familiar with every courtroom in Jefferson County and beyond.
He has competently, efficiently, and successfully represented thousands of clients. He has an exceptional ability to negotiate and communicate with judges, opposing counsel, and those who work behind the scenes to achieve optimal results for his clients.
Tom is an Upstate New York Native returning to the area after obtaining his law degree from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Tom obtained his undergraduate degree at SUNY Plattsburgh where received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Political Science graduating Magna Cum Laude. Tom enjoys hiking, running, playing tennis and spending time in the Adirondacks with his family.
