Over time, DWI arrests became so common that society began to look at DWIs like traffic tickets. Unfortunately, this has resulted in people increasingly accepting plea offers for charges they are not guilty of and don’t fully understand the ramifications of the pleas they accept. It was only after accepting a plea offer that someone realized the vast array of consequences and effects their decision to plead guilty would have – the effects on their driver’s license, their job, and the ramifications of probation, to name a few.

That’s why the DWI GUY brand was created more than 15 years ago. When we started, the goal was simple: to hold the government accountable and level the playing field between District Attorneys with vast resources and those they prosecute. Being one of the country’s first DWI defense-focused law firms allowed us to conduct an in-depth review of the minor details that can drastically affect someone’s case. That’s why we’ve done so much research into standardized field sobriety testing and understanding the science behind the breath test machine. This acquired knowledge has allowed us to hold the government accountable and level the playing field, all to the benefit and protection of our clients.

As we continued to grow into a statewide DWI defense firm, we changed the brand’s focus from one DWI GUY to encompass all the attorneys representing our vast array of clients in court. As we grew, we became the DWI Team. This seemingly minor change allowed us to assemble one of the largest teams of attorneys across New York State with DWI wherewithal. This team created the synergy necessary to accomplish our goal of holding the government accountable and leveling the playing field in the courts. We are not advocates of intoxicated driving; instead, we consistently seek to get our clients the help and assistance they need to prevent future charges and issues. We insist that the government’s mistakes and oversights should never create a situation where one’s future is unprotected.

DWI Focused representation needed to evolve because DWI Only representation was not good enough. Many clients charged with DWI were finding out the ramifications outside the DWI area was at times more severe than the DWI charge itself. So in 2018, Dennis Nave and Sean Kelsey, two people associated with the DWI Team brand for years, decided to expand the reach of legal help they could provide. With sweeping legal changes underway, Mr. Nave and Mr. Kelsey consistently saw the impact that clients charged with DWI faced in other areas of law – divorce, custody, child support, and 2nd Amendment rights, among others. So began the Nave Team. The Nave Team began its mission to focus on solving every day people problems in a broader array of practice areas by providing the same focused approach which worked with the DWI Team. With the creation of Nave Law Firm, clients charged with DWI who have other life-altering problems can have similarly focused attorneys in these specific areas of law assist them with the challenges they face without changing firms.

With the success and growth of the Nave Team, the evolution of DWI defense continued. With our knowledge of DWI law and our relationships across NYS and beyond, we can build defense strategies to overcome our clients’ biggest concerns. Our legal-focused, team-based approach allows us to excel in this niche area of law while never losing sight of our clients’ human side.
